We are delighted to announce that FCCN, the unit of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) responsible for digital services for the research community, will contribute to supporting DOAJ’s mission in Portugal.

Portugal has a growing Diamond open access publishing landscape, with many journals run by universities and research organisations. The support from FCCN will enable our collaboration with PUB In, an integrated platform to support scholarly publishing in Portugal developed by the University of Minho and FCCN with the aim of strengthening and professionalising open access journal publishing in Portugal through training, support, and shared practices for editorial teams. DOAJ and PUB In are working together to help Portuguese journals to meet international standards, gain quality assurance, visibility, and discoverability, and enhance the global impact of Portuguese research.

“We are delighted to welcome FCCN as a supporter,” said Joanna Ball, Managing Director of DOAJ, said, “and we hope this will inspire other national policy and funding organisations to collaborate with us to support quality assurance and visibility of open access journals in their county”.

“We believe Diamond open access is a cornerstone of inclusive, transparent, and collaborative science. Our partnership with DOAJ and support of the PUB In initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening the Portuguese open access publishing ecosystem”, said João Mendes Moreira, area director of FCT digital services unit, FCCN.
