DOAJ is a founding member of the pan-industry initiative Think. Check. Submit. (TCS).

One of the goals from the current strategy is to create more tools and resources to help librarians and researchers identify trusted journals.

We are delighted to announce a new video by Katherine Stephan, Researcher Engagement Librarian at Liverpool John Moores University and TCS Committee Member.

In the video, Katherine explains how to help researchers discover what they need to know when assessing whether or not a publisher is suitable for their research. This due diligence approach will help them avoid predatory publishers.

Three common scenarios

Katherine talks us through three of the most frequent problems researchers present:

  • I have never heard of this journal.
  • How do I know if a publisher is predatory or problematic?
  • Does this journal have a cost?

Katherine’s advice also covers what to do if a researcher realises that they have submitted an article to a predatory journal.

A transcript of the film is also available.
