Press release
26 July 2023 – Lansing, MI
A new agreement has been announced today, enabling many higher education institutions in Michigan and Indiana to support vital open access library infrastructure.
The partnership between the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) will open up the possibility for a broad range of academic libraries to support DOAJ. It will extend the reach of DOAJ’s existing consortial programs to many teaching and learning institutions and community colleges.
“MCLS is pleased to offer our members the chance to support the important work of DOAJ in advancing open access,” said Stephanie Davis, MCLS Associate Director. “MCLS views this partnership as a win for both DOAJ and MCLS member libraries in Indiana and Michigan. By investing in DOAJ, MCLS libraries are contributing to the big picture landscape of open access as well as helping their individual library users locate and use open resources.”
“As DOAJ celebrates its 20th anniversary, we continue to see the number of applications for inclusion grow from journals seeking the quality stamp and visibility that DOAJ brings. We are delighted that this new partnership with MCLS will facilitate support from a wide range of libraries in Michigan and Indiana. Establishing this kind of broad support from the community will help DOAJ continue to adapt and grow to meet the increasing demand for our service,” says Joanna Ball, DOAJ Managing Director.
