This year, DOAJ is 20 years old, and we are hosting three events to celebrate voices from our community on the themes Open, Global and Trusted. Our first event, on the theme Open, will be on 15th June.
Due to our global audience, we have looked at ways we can make our events this year more accessible to our community around the world. Our event on the 15th June will be in English, however, we are taking three key actions to make the event more inclusive in terms of languages.
Live AI Translation
Our event will be held online via Zoom, with the opportunity to for live translation into several languages. We have already tested some of the languages available, and with good results! Please note that some of these languages are currently available as a beta version. You’ll need to use a desktop or laptop for this feature to be available as it will not work on mobile or tablets. The supported languages are:

Recording of the event with transcripts available
We will be recording the event, and internally translate the transcript into several languages. This will be uploaded to YouTube, which means you can view the recording with subtitles in a variety of languages. The languages we will be translating into are:
- French
- Spanish
Asking questions in advance in your language
The event on the 15th June will be based around a discussion on the theme ‘Open’ between our guests and moderator, and we can take questions in advance for the Q&A. You can read about the moderator and our guests on our DOAJ at 20 website, or on the blog post announcing the event. You can ask questions in your language, and we will translate these questions to ask during the event. Please note that anonymous questions will not be considered. This is to ensure transparency. Questions can be sent to events@doaj.org. The deadline for asking questions in advance is 14th June 2023.
