Our work depends on sustained investment in our people, systems and infrastructure. We are therefore very grateful to the publishers and data users who choose to support DOAJ and contribute to the costs of maintaining and developing the service.
Publishers that support DOAJ help sustain an infrastructure that provides quality assurance, visibility, and discoverability for open access journals around the world. Our editorial team assesses nearly 9,000 new applications each year, alongside ongoing quality checks and investigations into suspected bad practice. This work helps maintain trust in the journals included in DOAJ and supports the wider community in identifying trusted open access publishing.
DOAJ’s curated journal and article metadata is also used by discovery services, commercial tools and other scholarly infrastructures around the world. The organisations that use DOAJ data play an important role in making open access research more visible and discoverable, and we are grateful to those that also contribute to sustaining the infrastructure behind the data.

Supporting DOAJ in 2027
We will soon start our fundraising cycle for 2027, and we are pleased to expand the ways organisations can support DOAJ.
For data users, we are introducing our Premium Metadata Service, providing access to up-to-date DOAJ metadata for use in your own systems and services.
For publisher supporters, we are adding new benefits to the supporter package, including a quarterly publisher supporter newsletter, with news and developments from DOAJ, and access to our Premium Metadata Service.
