Libraries are the lifeblood of DOAJ. We were founded at Lund University Libraries in 2003, and our growth and development have been fuelled by the library community, particularly through our crowdfunding model pioneered by Lars Bjønshauge in 2013. We are proud of our shared values and strong connections with the academic library community.

Preliminary results from our community survey confirm how much DOAJ is valued by the library community, who rely on our service to help their researchers identify trusted journals and enable their users to access a more diverse range of trusted research.

As a result of the sustainability review we carried out with Research Consulting last year, we launched a new library and institutional supporter model for 2024, aligned with the levels of other SCOSS infrastructures.

We are delighted that so many libraries have already renewed their support at these new rates, demonstrating their commitment to our shared mission, and we are working actively with several consortia to transition libraries that supported us at our lower basic rate to the new level.

We continue to work to strengthen existing consortial relationships, as well as build new ones. We launched our first Swedish consortial agreement with BIBSAM this year, increasing the number of supporting libraries to 21. We are also proud that the Royal Danish Library made a first-of-its-kind contribution to DOAJ on behalf of all Danish higher education institutions. We are discussing new and renewed agreements for 2025 with several other national library organisations and consortia.

We encourage all libraries that use and value DOAJ’s service to contribute to our operating costs. Every contribution is invested in enhancing the reliability and comprehensiveness of our service and metadata. Your support ensures that we can continue to provide a valuable resource for researchers and libraries worldwide.
