A year ago, on World Digital Preservation Day 2020, a new initiative to preserve DOAJ-listed, no-fee open access journals was announced.
Project JASPER was launched by DOAJ, CLOCKSS, Internet Archive, Keepers Registry and Public Knowledge Project to start addressing the problem of journals disappearing from the web, a phenomenon evidenced by research*.
A year on, we are keen to update the community on our progress to date.
We are delighted to announce:
- The launch of the project’s testing phase;
- The establishment and development of a process to ingest journal titles;
- The sustained commitment of the founding organisational partners;
- The first articles from the journal, Fafnir, have been ingested to be preserved by CLOCKSS and Internet Archive;
- PKP has updated the documentation about the Open Journal System preservation features;
- Internet Archive has joined Keepers Registry.
We are now poised to include more journals and more preservation agencies. We are focused on sustainability and preparing for a funding drive to ensure JASPER can expand to include all journals that need affordable archiving options.
Please email us to register interest in being involved, or to send enquiries, or receive updates about the latest developments.
Please check our dedicated webpage for full information about the project, the partner organisations involved and the project phases.
