Press Release
7 April 2022, Paris – DOAJ is pleased to announce that it will be receiving €70,000 EUR in funding from the French National Fund for Open Science. The decision to allocate the funds was taken by the Steering Committee for Open Science who recognized the strategic role that DOAJ plays in promoting and vetting high-quality open access journals.
The support forms part of the implementation of the “Second French Plan for Open Science“. It is intended to support DOAJ infrastructure and to reinforce work already initiated in partnership with other French actors, such as a project to help French journals become indexed in DOAJ with the journal platform Mir@bel2022.
“I am delighted by the decision of the National Open Science Fund to support DOAJ,” said Joanna Ball, DOAJ Managing Director. “FSNO’s commitment to the development and sustainability of global open access will help ensure that DOAJ can continue its valuable mission to make quality scientific research available to all and shape the future of diverse scholarly publishing around the world.”
“By supporting the DOAJ, we are pleased to contribute to the maintenance of an essential infrastructure for the referencing, visibility and quality of open access journals worldwide”, says Claire Giry, Director General for Research and Innovation and President of the French Open Science Steering Committee. “We thus affirm our commitment to the sustainability of international open science infrastructures governed by the scientific community.”
DOAJ is a community curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer reviewed journals. DOAJ deploys more than one hundred carefully selected volunteers from among the community of library and other academic disciplines to assist in the curation of open access journals. This independent database contains over 17,500 peer-reviewed open access journals covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities, in English and 80 other languages. DOAJ is financially supported worldwide by libraries, publishers, and other like-minded organizations. DOAJ services are free for all, and all data provided by DOAJ are harvestable via OAI/PMH and the API.
