Version 2.0 of the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure was released this month. DOAJ is pleased to announce its recommitment to the Principles, approved by the Foundation Board at its meeting in October 2025.
Adopting the POSI principles in 2022 was an important step for DOAJ. It has guided our work during the last three years, ensuring that we focus on areas that bring us closer to the principles of accountability, transparency and sustainability. We have built on our POSI assessment through our work on the FOREST framework e our submission to Invest in Open’s Infrafinder.
Adopting POSI has also connected us with a community of like-minded individuals and organisations to discuss knotty issues with. What are transparent operations? What is the difference between lobbying and advocacy? If we are unsure of how to interpret some of the principles, what does that mean for our community, who use our adoption of the principles to make judgments about our organisations? DOAJ has been pleased to contribute to the new iteration of the principles as part of a collaborative process involving the current adopters. We believe the new version is clearer, and therefore more accessible globally.
The fundamental changes we have made to our organisational structure and governance over the last two years have been frustratingly slow, as we have waded through procedural, regulatory and administrative challenges. Now seems an appropriate moment to revisit the principles, reassess our organisation and progress so far, and consider our future priorities.
Most importantly for DOAJ and our community, this is a reaffirmation of our commitment to our values of global, open and trusted, which align so well with the themes of stakeholder governance, transparency and accountability of POSI.
