DOAJ is pleased to announce that it has become a member of OPERAS, the Research Infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the European Research Area.

Joining the OPERAS community aligns with DOAJ’s mission to support all open access journals. Many SSH open access journals are published by Diamond or smaller publishers and are therefore more vulnerable. DOAJ’s membership in OPERAS will influence discussions and initiatives around open access and best practice journal publishing in SSH.

Joanna Ball, DOAJ’s Managing Director, said about becoming a member of OPERAS:  “DOAJ already has formal and informal partnerships with many OPERAS members, and we’re looking forward to collaborating to strengthen those relationships. As a critical open infrastructure in open access journal publishing, we’re delighted to be able to contribute our expertise and global perspective to the work of the OPERAS community in future.”

Pierre Mounier, OPERAS Co-Coordinator, said about the new membership: “OPERAS is delighted to welcome DOAJ as a new member with its wide scope on Open Access publishing within the OPERAS community. OPERAS and DOAJ have already successfully collaborated on the SUES project and the Diamond Open Access projects. We look forward to further developing this collaboration.”

DOAJ will contribute its competencies to the OPERAS Special Interest Group for Best Practices.
